I resumed Favorite
Story with Rappaccini’s Daughter, a
very unusual choice; I was acquainted with the Nathaniel Hawthorne short story
from Gothic Horror and it is a lesser classic. It was interpreted quite literally,
although the way the story was written made it somewhat un-dramatic. The young student’s landlady became a
frequent if sour commentator in order to provide the listener with vital story
clues, and the sense of Giovanni narrating it marks the adaptation as somewhat
old-fashioned. Nevertheless, it was a
creepy and interesting story. I think,
as per usual, William Conrad played the hero.
